The
Phone Shop, Warminster - Never Again... 02 Sept 2010
More important than free parking for shoppers is good
service. Three weeks on we would still be waiting for a
certain craft shop to get the surface protector in that
they promised within a week (or even hear from them!). I
say we would be waiting but after two weeks we gave up and
bought the same item online and had it delivered within 72
hours. Another sale lost due to lousy service, and that
was the second time they'd mucked us about, more fool us
for giving them a second chance.
Now we have to go out and buy another mobile phone for the wife because £15 the poorer, one week on, and various assurances sunk without trace The Phone Shop (that used to be in Market Place but moved to the High St, in Warminster) still haven't managed to do a simple thing like unlocking her phone, and we have no idea when we will actually get the phone back. We really should have paid the same amount to T-Mobile to unlock it, but wanted to give another local shop that look to us like they are struggling, a chance. I even trusted them enough to pay cash up front, again, more fool me! You might have a better experience with them, but why on earth would you want to risk it?
We strongly believe in supporting local shops, but how many go to the wall blaming car parking charges or major retailers when the truth is that they failed because they were clueless about giving good service, honouring their word, or inflated their prices?
Wiltshire
Council Gives Area Board £3,000 To Put Warminster's Care
Homes In A Spin... 02 Sept 2010
Lib Dem Trevor Carbin
didn't win enough votes to become our MP but as a
Wiltshire Councillor he remains very active in keeping an
eye on the money that WC flushes down the pan. His
excellent website has just reported that WC are giving
each Area Board £3,000 to reach different sectors of the
public and our allocation of spin money goes to those in
care homes,

When
999 Is Not An Emergency Service...
02 Sept 2010
Driving along a quiet lane on the edge of Warminster just
after 6:30pm yesterday evening my wife and I spotted a
girl, who we estimated to be around 9 or 10 years of age,
alone with a dog. We were concerned that she was on her
own but as she was approaching a built-up area did nothing
about it. However returning over two hours later, now in
the dark, the same girl was in another quiet area, so we
dialled 999 and asked for the police. I was told that a
unit would be despatched immediately, but when around 20
minutes had passed and none had arrived I phoned 999 again
(the girl was out of sight). The operator tried three
different numbers before she got a response, this time
from Gloucestershire police as no one had responded from
Wiltshire. Gloucestershire police had no record of my call
and had to find the number for Wiltshire police and a few
minutes later text it to me, I rang it and they confirmed
that officers were en-route. 30 minutes after my original
call two officers on foot from the centre of Warminster
arrived, by which time there was no sign of the girl and
she was not found. I have no idea what had happened to her
for her to be out alone, and no idea whether she got home
safely.
Protecting frontline officer numbers during the coming police cutbacks is not good enough if there aren't enough telephone operators to even pick up a 999 call in Wiltshire, and if officers don't even have the immediate use of a response car. Because of the annual service of the Wiltshire police helicopter at the moment none could have been called in to find her. I'm waiting for feedback from the police on this.

Not Quite A Debs Ball... 02 Sept 2010 Fivo, our 11 week old Jack Russell puppy, like most pets, enjoys private healthcare (unlike us that have to endure the vagaries of the NHS), so yesterday evening we were at Garston veterinary practice in Warminster, not this time for jabs and chips, but for a 'Puppy Party'! It was hilarious, at one stage I had tears of laughter streaming down my face as Fivo clearly lured the boys and a very handsome young Puggle called Steve and her had a dry run of what comes naturally. Actually maybe it was like Debs Balls these days! The evening was a great opportunity for the puppies to learn to socialise, appropriately, with each other, for us to learn some much needed tips from the Garston behaviourist, and to look around Garston's state of the art facilities.
Garston practices, they're in Frome and Trowbridge as well as Warminster, all have blood testing facilities, x-ray equipment, separate prep rooms and dedicated operating rooms, and are one of the few remaining large practices owned and run by vets, not investment companies. We also saw their separate dog and cat rooms where pets can stay pre and post op, or just for observation, and an isolation room for any emergency intake of animals whose inoculations are not up to date. The cleanliness was tremendous, they don't have MRSA ! We may be envious of Fivo's care, but we're glad we chose Garston.
And yes, Fivo did leave with a goodie bag!

Warminster Web celebrates its first birthday this week, it
already enjoys and appreciates the support and feedback
from thousands of readers (despite the holidays August was
another record month), and, if it is not already, it is
fast becoming the most important source of news in the
Warminster area. It remains accountable to you the
readers, and actively encourages disagreement with it that
can hone it into an even better, and more reflective,
public service, Its a damn shame that Warminster Town
Council don't value your opinion as well, and because of
such, and their repeated incompetence, I say that they
are more like a bungling dictatorship than elected
officials, and they are no longer fit to govern.
